Did you know that losing weight and staying fit are two of the most common objectives of practicing yoga. Staying fit and healthy has its own benefits. Omved will write a series of posts giving information on asanas that can help you stay fit. In this post we’ve listed a couple of easy exercises or asanas that can help you get that flat tummy.

We advise that you consult your doctor before trying any of these asanas.

1. Bridge Pose – Setu Bandhasana

This asana helps you burn not only your belly fat but also helps in building the muscles of the abdomen.

How to perform this asana:

  • Lie flat on your back on a yoga mat.
  • The yoga mat is essentially to protect your neck.
  • Bend your knees and and set your feet on the floor. Exhale.
  • Press your inner feet and arms on the floor.
  • Now push your tailbone upwards while firming your buttocks and lift the buttocks off the floor.
  • Note that your thighs and inner feet must be parallel.
  • Your arms should be straight by the side of your body.
  • Maintain the position for as long as you can.
  • Now gradually lower the body back on the mat. Repeat.


2. Boat Pose – Naukasana 

This is a common yoga posture that works wonders on your abs.

How to perform this asana:

  • Lie flat on the ground, with your back on the floor.
  • Now raise your upper body and legs to an angle of 30 degrees.
  • Hold  the posture for about half a minute.  Relax.
  • Repeat this asana for 10 times to begin with, increase the repititions till about 30 reps and breathe normally all through the work out.

3. Locust Pose – Salabah asana

This asana helps to burn the belly fat when done on a regular basis.

How to perform this asana:

  • Lie down flat on your yoga mat, with your face facing down.
  • Stretch out your legs and arms as far wide as possible.
  • Keeping both arms and legs absolutely straight, lift the head, arms, chest and legs all at the same time.
  • Maintain this position for a few seconds before slowly lowering all parts simultaneously. Repeat.

While there are many yoga asanas that can help you reduce the belly fat, these are the most recommended ones. What is your favourite asana to get a flatter stomach?
