Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum that is used in both sweet and savoury foods. Cinnamon contains vitamin A, niacin, pantothenic acid, and pyridoxine. Cinnamon is a common spice used in cooking to enhance the fragrance as well as the flavour of food. Cinnamon has been for years been used in traditional healing methods. Cinnamon has its share of healing properties and we’ve listed some for you:

Cures insect bites

Mix one teaspoon of honey with two teaspoons of warm water and add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon powder to this. Mix to make a fine paste and apply on the affected area to get relief from the pain and itching associated with the bite.

Helps control blood sugar

Research has shown that including whole cinnamon and/ or cinnamon extracts in the diet can help Type 2 Diabetes people control the blood glucose levels.

Helps reduce the pain in arthritis

Drinking one glass of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon powder at least twice a day is known to reduce the intensity of the pain associated with arthritis. This same drink is also known to cure bladder infections.

Helps cure respiratory disease

Cinnamon is known to possess antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties. It is known to cure simple respiratory disorders like the common cold and cough. For a stubborn sore throat and cold you can boil water with cinnamon and gargle with it. It helps to reduce inflammations and expel the mucus thus allowing the process of decongestion.
